The iPhone 18 lineup is arriving in two waves, and that confuses many buyers. Apple launched the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max in September 2026, but there is no regular iPhone 18 yet. iPhone 18 Lineup: What Apple Has Launched
Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max on 9 September 2026. Preorders opened on 12 September, and the phones went on sale on 18 September 2026 in the US, UK, India and many other countries.

iPhone 18 Pro Prices in the US, UK and India

Both models start at 256GB of storage, and you can go up to 2TB. For example, in India the 18 Pro costs Rs 1,89,900 for 512GB, Rs 2,39,900 for 1TB and Rs 3,14,900 for 2TB. Colours are black, silver, glacier and burgundy.

Display and design
The 18 Pro has a 6.3 inch OLED screen, while the Pro Max has a 6.9 inch screen. In addition, the Dynamic Island is smaller and can show three Live Activities at once.
A20 Pro chip
Both phones use the new A20 Pro chip, built on a 2 nanometre process. It has a 6 core CPU, a 7 core GPU with Neural Accelerators and a dual 16 core Neural Engine. In simple terms, it is built to run more AI on the phone itself, which is faster and more private than sending everything to the cloud.
Cameras
Cameras are the headline upgrade:
- Main camera: 48MP with a variable aperture from f/1.48 to f/4, so you can control background blur and sharpness like a real camera.
- Ultra wide: 48MP.
- Telephoto: 48MP at 4x, with 8x optical quality and up to 40x digital zoom.
- Front camera: 18MP with Center Stage.

Battery and connectivity
Apple quotes up to 36 hours of video playback on the 18 Pro and up to 45 hours on the Pro Max for eSIM models. The phones also use Apple’s own C2 modem, which uses 15% less energy than the C1X, plus the N1 chip for Wi Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.
iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max?
The choice mostly comes down to size and battery. The 18 Pro has a 6.3 inch screen and is easier to use with one hand. By contrast, the 18 Pro Max has a 6.9 inch screen and lasts longer, with up to 45 hours of video playback compared with 36 hours. Both share the same chip and cameras, so you do not lose any photo features by choosing the smaller phone. As a result, pick the Pro Max only if you want the bigger screen or the longest battery life.
iPhone 18 Pro AI Features
The 18 Pro launched with Siri AI, Apple’s smarter assistant that understands personal context and what is on your screen. For example, a Siri mode in the Camera app can answer questions about what you point at. Photo tools also improved, with Spatial Reframing, Extend and a better Clean Up.
However, Siri AI started in English only and was not initially available in the EU. The upcoming iOS 27.2 update adds French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish.
When Is the Base iPhone 18 Coming?
This is where rumours take over. Apple has not announced a regular iPhone 18 or an iPhone 18e. Still, several reports point the same way:
- Spring 2027 launch (rumour): Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported on 14 September 2026 that the standard model and 18e will arrive in the first half of 2027.
- Production (rumour): a Weibo leaker claims iPhone 18 production starts in late November 2026.
- Specs (rumour): reports suggest an A20 chip and a 6.3 inch 120Hz screen for the base model, and a 6.1 inch 60Hz screen for the 18e.
- Prices (rumour): early estimates point to about $899 for the base model and about $699 for the 18e. There are no UK or India estimates yet.
In short, treat these details as unconfirmed until Apple makes an announcement.
Should You Buy an iPhone 18 Pro Now or Wait?
Buy the iPhone 18 Pro now if:
- You want the best iPhone camera available today.
- You plan to use Siri AI and other new Apple Intelligence features.
- Your current iPhone is three or more years old.
Wait for spring 2027 if:
- You want a cheaper iPhone with the new A20 chip.
- You do not need the variable aperture camera or 4x telephoto.
- Your current phone still works well and receives updates.
On the other hand, if you already own an iPhone 17 Pro, the upgrade is smaller. In that case, the iOS 27 update brings many of the same software features to your phone for free.
