iOS 27.2 is the next big update for the iPhone, and it is almost here. Apple sent the iOS 27.2 Release Candidate to developers on 19 October 2026, which usually means the public release is days away. The update brings Siri AI to five new languages, Group FaceTime with both cameras at once, a fresh Apple Music icon and several smaller changes. In this guide, we cover the expected release date, every confirmed feature, which iPhones get iOS 27.2 and how to install it safely.
iOS 27.2 Release Date: When Will It Arrive?
Apple has not announced a date yet. However, the Release Candidate is the final test build, and Apple normally ships the public version about a week later. Here is what trusted Apple watchers expect:
| Source | Expected release |
|---|---|
| Macworld | 26 or 27 October 2026 |
| MacRumors | Before the end of October 2026 |
| Daring Fireball | Late October, after the iPhone Duo launch |
In short, most signs point to the last week of October 2026. Apple also promised new Siri AI languages in October, which supports that timing.
Why there is no iOS 27.1 for most iPhones
You may wonder why your iPhone jumps from iOS 27.0.1 straight to iOS 27.2. That is because iOS 27.1 is a special version made only for the new iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable iPhone. As a result, every other iPhone moves directly to iOS 27.2.
iOS 27.2 New Features
Apple tested iOS 27.2 through four betas and a Release Candidate. These features are confirmed in the latest build.
Siri AI in five more languages
When iOS 27 launched, Siri AI worked in English only. With iOS 27.2, it adds French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. This is the biggest change for users outside English speaking countries. Note that Siri AI still needs an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, and it is not available in mainland China for now.
Group FaceTime with Dual Capture
Dual Capture lets you film with the front and rear cameras at the same time, so friends see both you and what you are looking at. Until now, it worked only in one to one calls. Now, iOS 27.2 brings it to Group FaceTime. To use it, you need an iPhone 17 or later, and other callers need iOS 27, iPadOS 27 or macOS 27 to see both video streams.
Apple TV app: profiles and Multiview
The Apple TV app on iPhone finally gets user profiles. For example, a child profile shows only age appropriate content, which helps families who share one device. In addition, Multiview lets you watch up to four select sports streams on one screen.
A new Apple Music icon
Apple Music gets a new black and white app icon, and the active tab now shows a blue highlight. This small design change also became a trending search this week, so do not worry if the icon looks different after you update.
Podcasts and Phone app updates
In Podcasts, the Home tab splits “Up Next” into “New Episodes” and “Continue Playing”, which makes it easier to find shows. Meanwhile, the Phone app’s Call Context feature can now remind you of an anniversary when you call a partner, as long as the date is saved in Contacts.
Privacy prompt changes in the EU
For users in some EU countries, apps can use a new, more detailed tracking permission prompt and ask again once a year. Apple’s release notes say the new prompt is required in France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Romania.
What Did Not Make It Into iOS 27.2
Early betas included a redesigned Health app with new Insights and Health Age sections. However, Apple removed it in beta 4. Apple’s notes say it will return in an upcoming beta, and Macworld expects it later this year. So if you read about the new Health app, expect it in a later update rather than in iOS 27.2.
Which iPhones Get iOS 27.2?
iOS 27.2 supports the same iPhones as iOS 27. That includes:
- iPhone 11 series and later
- iPhone SE (2nd generation and later)
- iPhone 16e, iPhone 17 series, iPhone Air and iPhone 17e
- iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max
Keep in mind that some features need newer hardware. For instance, Siri AI needs an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, and Group FaceTime Dual Capture needs an iPhone 17 or later. The iPhone Duo stays on iOS 27.1 for now and should get its own update later. For the full list of iOS 27 features, read our iOS 27 update guide.
How to Install iOS 27.2
When the public version is out
- Back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer.
- Charge it above 50% or keep it plugged in.
- Open Settings, then General, then Software Update.
- Tap Update Now and follow the steps.
If you want to try it early
You can join Apple’s free Beta Software Program to test new builds. After you enrol, go to Settings, then General, then Software Update, then Beta Updates, and pick the public beta. However, betas can have bugs, so avoid them on the phone you rely on every day.
Known Issues to Watch For
Apple’s iOS 27.2 release notes list a few known problems in the Release Candidate:
- Personalised summaries may not appear in the Health Insights tab.
- The Shortcuts “Describe a Shortcut” option may fail with an error.
- If you are waiting on Quest lab results in the Health app, Apple suggests waiting until they arrive before you update.
These issues are minor for most people. Still, if any of them affects you, it makes sense to wait a few days after release.
Should You Install iOS 27.2?
For most people, yes. iOS 27.2 adds useful features and the latest fixes, and point updates like this one are usually stable. Besides, updates also bring security patches, which protect you from new scams and attacks. To stay safer, you can also turn on Apple’s new protection tools from our guide to iPhone scam protection.
If you own Apple’s new HomeView display, iOS 27.2 also matters, because Apple lists it as required for that device. Our Apple HomeView guide explains what the display does.
