The One UI 9 update is now reaching millions of Samsung Galaxy phones. It brings Android 17, smarter Galaxy AI tools, a more flexible Quick Panel and new privacy alerts. Even better, the Galaxy S23 series and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 started getting it in October 2026.
However, Samsung releases One UI 9 in waves, by country, carrier and model. So the big question is simple: when will your phone get it, and is it worth installing right away? This guide answers both, in plain English.
Quick answer: The One UI 9 update supports the Galaxy S23 series and newer, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 and newer, and many recent Galaxy A phones and tablets. As of 21 October 2026, it is rolling out to the S26, S25, S24 and S23 series and to several foldables and A series phones. To check, open Settings > Software update > Download and install.
What is the One UI 9 update?
One UI 9 is Samsung’s software layer for Galaxy phones and tablets, built on Android 17. Samsung first launched it on the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8 and Z Flip8 in July 2026. Then, on 16 September 2026, Samsung started the official rollout to other devices, beginning with the Galaxy S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra, as confirmed on the Samsung Global Newsroom.
It is not a full redesign. Instead, One UI 9 focuses on three things: more helpful AI, more control over your phone, and clearer privacy and security tools.
One UI 9 eligible devices
Samsung has not published one complete global list. Still, based on Samsung’s update promises and the phones already receiving stable builds, these devices are in line for One UI 9:
| Series | Devices |
|---|---|
| Galaxy S | S26 series, S26 FE (ships with it), S25 series, S25 FE, S25 Edge, S24 series, S24 FE, S23 series, S23 FE |
| Galaxy Z | Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8, Z Flip8 (ship with it), Z Fold7, Z Flip7, Z Flip7 FE, Z TriFold, Z Fold6, Z Flip6, Z Fold5, Z Flip5 |
| Galaxy A | Recent models such as A57, A56, A55, A37, A36, A35, A27, A25 and more |
| Galaxy Tab | Tab S9 series and newer, plus some Tab A models |
On the other hand, the Galaxy S22 series and the Galaxy S21 FE will not get One UI 9, because they have reached the end of their major Android updates.

Here is where the stable One UI 9 update stands right now, based on Samsung announcements and confirmed builds reported by owners.
- Galaxy S26, S26+, S26 Ultra: rolling out since 16 September in South Korea, then the US, Europe, India, Canada and more.
- Galaxy S25 series, Z Fold7 and Z Flip7: rolling out since 28 September. They now have it in South Korea, the US, Europe and India.
- Galaxy S24, S24+, S24 Ultra: started 6 October in South Korea, then Europe, India and some US carriers from 12 October.
- Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6: rolling out in South Korea, the US, India and Europe since 6 to 13 October.
- Galaxy S23, S23+, S23 Ultra: started 14 October in South Korea and reached Europe on 19 October. Wider markets should follow soon.
- Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5: started 14 October in South Korea, beginning with beta users. Other regions are following in stages.
- Galaxy A57, A56, A37, A36 and A27: rolling out in stages since early to mid October.
- Still waiting: Galaxy S23 FE, Tab S11, Tab S10 and many A, M and F series phones. Samsung has not given dates for these yet.
Keep in mind that a phone in the same country can get the One UI 9 update days apart, because carriers test each build first.
One UI 9 is the last big update for the Galaxy S23
If you own a Galaxy S23, S23+ or S23 Ultra, this update matters a lot. Samsung promised these phones four major Android upgrades, and One UI 9 is the fourth. In other words, it is their final major OS update, although security patches continue for longer. The same applies to the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5.
For beta testers, the S23 download is about 500 MB. However, if you are coming from One UI 8.5, expect a download close to 4 GB, so use Wi Fi.
Best new features in the One UI 9 update
Samsung packed a lot into this release. These are the features most people will notice first.
Galaxy AI upgrades
- Now Nudge: shows timely suggestions in more places. For example, while you plan a dinner over text, it can pull up a booking or save a shared location without leaving the chat.
- Now Brief cards: you can now create your own cards for health, weather and video, so your daily summary shows what you care about.
- My FanCam: tracks one person in a video you recorded and keeps them centered, which is handy for a child’s performance or a match.
- Interpreter Thread View: lets you scroll back through earlier translated lines during a live conversation.
- Creative Studio ideas: suggests image ideas for upcoming events, such as a friend’s birthday.
- Smarter Voice Recorder and Document Scan: recordings get cleaner summaries with headings and tables, and scans handle curved book pages better.
In addition, newer flagships get Gemini Intelligence, which can carry out multi step tasks across apps from one request. Reports say the full version needs at least 12 GB of RAM and a recent flagship chip, so older phones may get a lighter version or none at all. Privacy and security tools
- Privacy Alerts: uses on device AI to flag apps that try to use permissions in the background without a clear reason. Samsung lists the Galaxy S23 and newer among supported phones.
- Security Brief: adds alerts about malware, apps from unknown sources and unnecessary permissions to Now Brief.
- Scam Detection: call scam protection now reaches more countries, including Japan, Canada and India.
- Location privacy indicator: a clear icon shows when an app is using your location.
Driving Report
One UI 9 also adds Driving Report. It starts when your phone connects to your car by Bluetooth and then summarizes your trips and driving habits, such as hard braking. You can find it under Settings > Connected devices > Driving report. It is off by default, and so far it is confirmed on the Galaxy S26 series and the newest foldables. Some people love it, while others find it a little too nosy, so you can simply leave it off.
Everyday changes
- A Quick Panel where you can resize and rearrange brightness, volume and media controls
- A new Warranty and Care menu in Settings for warranty checks, self diagnostics and repair bookings
- Better Samsung DeX and Samsung Notes
- New accessibility options
Features can vary by model, region and language, so your phone may not show every item above.
How to install the One UI 9 update
Follow these steps once the update reaches your phone:
- Back up your phone with Samsung Cloud, Google One or Smart Switch.
- Charge to at least 50% and connect to Wi Fi.
- Free up storage. Aim for at least 6 GB of free space.
- Open Settings > Software update > Download and install.
- Tap Download, then Install now, and wait. The phone will restart once or twice.
If your phone says it is up to date, check again in a day or two. Samsung often releases the One UI 9 update to beta users first.
Should you install One UI 9 now?
For most people, yes. The update adds useful AI and privacy features, plus newer security patches. However, a few early users of some mid range phones reported bugs after updating, such as some Galaxy A57 phones getting stuck at startup. So if you rely on your phone for work, waiting one or two weeks for the first fix is a sensible choice.
