The Triple 200MP Camera Explained

Three 200MP sensors sound like a marketing trick. However, the idea is simple: every lens gets enough detail to crop in and still look sharp.

  • Main camera: a 1/1.28 inch Samsung ISOCELL HPC sensor (about 1/1.3 inch) with an f/1.5 lens and optical stabilisation.
  • Ultra wide: a 1/1.56 inch sensor with a 124 degree view and autofocus, so it also works for close ups.
  • Periscope telephoto: 3x optical zoom with a 1/1.56 inch sensor. It can focus from just 10 cm, so it doubles as a macro camera.

By default, the phone saves 26MP photos from the ultra wide up to 9.9x zoom. As a result, files stay small, and you can switch to 50MP or 200MP mode when you need every detail.

Video is the bigger story. All three cameras record 8K at 30fps and 4K at 120fps. On top of that, the phone supports Dolby Vision, O Log2 for colour grading and open gate capture, which creators will like. Oppo also claims up to 17 stops of dynamic range from the main camera.

AI Features: Less Fake Detail, More Help

Interestingly, Oppo’s main AI change goes in the opposite direction from most phones. Its new LUMO True Image Engine aims to reduce AI generated detail and heavy sharpening, so photos look more natural. In fact, Engadget’s hands on found fewer processing artefacts on text and patterns than on older Oppo phones. If you care about spotting edited images, our guide on how to tell if a photo is AI generated explains why this matters.

Beyond the camera, ColorOS 17 adds several AI tools:

  • AI Mind Pilot with Agent Mode: an assistant that works with your photos and files and can handle multi step tasks. Oppo built it with Manus.
  • AI Photo Agent: edit photos by typing what you want, or copy a style from another image. It has monthly limits and is rolling out gradually.
  • AI Call Guard: warns you about synthetic voices and face swaps during calls. It is available in India, Indonesia and Thailand first.
  • Private Computing Cloud: sends heavier AI jobs to encrypted Oppo servers instead of processing them only on the phone.

Battery and Charging

The Oppo Find X10 Pro Max uses a silicon carbon battery. Most markets, including India, get 8,000mAh. However, Europe and some other regions get a 7,150mAh version. Even so, Engadget reports Oppo’s claim of almost 25 hours of YouTube streaming on the 7,150mAh European model.

Charging is fast too: 80W with a cable and 50W wireless. One catch, though, is that full wireless speed needs Oppo’s own AIRVOOC charger.

What Reviewers Did Not Like

No phone is perfect, and early reviews point out a few weak spots:

  • High price: it costs much more than last year’s Find X9 Pro.
  • Smaller main sensor than the Find X9 Ultra: Engadget found the older Ultra better in low light and noted it also has a 10x zoom.
  • Teleconverter design: the mounting plate covers the other cameras, so you must remove it to switch lenses.
  • No US release: buyers in the US would need to import it, without local support.
  • Gaming: the MediaTek chip is fast, but some games are better tuned for Snapdragon phones.

Oppo Find X10 Pro Max vs Find X10

Oppo also launched a smaller Find X10. It has a 6.59 inch screen, the Dimensity 9600M chip and two 200MP cameras instead of three. Moreover, it costs less, starting at Rs 1,39,999 in India. Therefore, if you mainly want great photos in a smaller body, the Find X10 is the better value. On the other hand, pick the Pro Max for the ultra wide 200MP camera, the bigger screen and the full video toolkit.

Should You Buy the Oppo Find X10 Pro Max?

Buy it if you shoot a lot of video, love zoom and macro photos, and want a very large battery. In addition, the rugged IP69 rating suits people who travel or work outdoors.

Skip it if you live in the US, if you mainly use your phone for gaming, or if low light photos are your top priority. In that case, a discounted Find X9 Ultra may serve you better, or you can wait for a possible Find X10 Ultra.
