Fitbit Edge: Price, AI Health Coach, Features and Is It Worth Buying?

Google’s new Fitbit Edge is the fitness tracker many Fitbit fans asked for: a bright screen, built in GPS, a week of battery and, for the first time, a battery you can replace. In addition, it pairs with Google Health Coach, the Gemini powered AI coach that turns your sleep and workout data into a plan.

Google announced Fitbit Edge on 12 October 2026. In this guide, we cover the price, every key feature, what the AI coach actually does, what is missing, and who should buy it.

Quick answer: Fitbit Edge costs $179.99 in the US and £159.99 in the UK. Preorders are open now, and then it reaches stores on 27 October 2026. It is a strong pick if you want GPS and a screen without paying smartwatch prices. However, the AI coach needs a paid Google Health Premium plan after a 3 month free trial.

What is Fitbit Edge?

Fitbit Edge is a band style fitness tracker with a screen. Basically, it sits in the middle of Google’s wearable range. For example, below it is the screenless Fitbit Air, which launched in May 2026 at $99.99. On the other hand, above it is the Pixel Watch 5, a full smartwatch that costs much more.

In short, think of Edge as the successor to the popular Fitbit Charge 6. Similarly, it keeps the slim band shape, but it adds a bigger screen, better GPS, a real clicking button and a more rounded, watch like design.

Price, colours and release date

In the US, Fitbit Edge costs $179.99. Also, the Stephen Curry Special Edition, with its own colours and a water repellent band, costs $219.99. Meanwhile, in the UK it is £159.99.

First, preorders opened on 12 October through the Google Store and retail partners, and the tracker goes on sale on 27 October 2026.

It comes in four finishes:

  • Obsidian: matte black
  • Fog: polished silver
  • Olive: satin pyrite
  • Canyon: warm gold

Extra bands cost from $39.99 (Active Sport) to $149.99 (Metal Links). However, Edge uses a new snap in band system. As a result, your old Charge 6 or Pixel Watch bands will not fit.

Fitbit Edge price in India

Google has not announced an India price or date yet. Still, Indian tech sites estimate it at around ₹18,000 to ₹20,000 if it launches there. Therefore, we will update this guide once Google confirms it.

Key features of Fitbit Edge

A bigger, brighter screen

The OLED screen offers about 46% more viewing area than earlier Fitbit trackers, so pace, heart rate zones and notifications are easier to read on a run. In addition, Gorilla Glass 3 protects it.

Built in GPS that works without your phone

With Edge, you can leave your phone at home and still map your run or ride. In fact, Google says route tracking is up to 40% more accurate than the previous generation. Besides that, the altimeter tracks hills and stairs. One detail for serious runners: Edge uses single frequency GPS, while the Pixel Watch 5 uses dual frequency, which holds up better in cities with tall buildings.

50 plus workout modes and auto detection

You get more than 50 exercise modes with live guidance such as pace targets, heart rate zones and splits. Additionally, Edge can spot and log up to 100 activities by itself. It can also share live data with gym equipment such as Peloton bikes.

A week of battery and a battery you can replace

To start, Google rates Edge for up to 7 days on one charge. When you are low, about 5 minutes on the magnetic charger gives you a full day. Overall, a full charge takes around 90 minutes.

Above all, the big news is repair. Edge is Fitbit’s first tracker with a replaceable battery and a modular inside. Because batteries are the first thing to die on most trackers, this could double the useful life of the device. However, Google has not shared the cost of a replacement battery yet.

A physical button again

Fitbit Charge 6 used a touch sensitive button. In contrast, Edge brings back a real button that clicks, which is easier to press in the middle of a workout, even with sweaty fingers or gloves.

Health tracking: what Fitbit Edge measures

In general, Edge tracks the core health data most people care about:

  • Heart rate around the clock, plus resting heart rate and heart rate variability (HRV)
  • ECG app for heart rhythm checks (select countries, for people 22 and older)
  • Skin temperature changes each night (not in all countries)
  • Blood oxygen levels
  • Sleep stages and a morning recovery score
  • Cycle tracking

Besides this, it also runs Google’s Health Guardian checks in the background. In particular, these look for trends that may point to changes in blood pressure or insulin resistance, and they alert you to very high or very low heart rates. However, Google says these are wellness features, not medical diagnosis, and they are not available in every region. Therefore, if something looks off, treat it as a reason to talk to a doctor, not as a result.

The AI part: Google Health Coach explained

The AI feature that makes Edge interesting is Google Health Coach, built on Gemini. Here is what it does in plain words:

  • Builds a fitness plan around you. It looks at your sleep, recovery and past workouts, then adjusts your plan instead of giving everyone the same routine.
  • Answers questions about your data. You can ask things like “Why was my sleep score low this week?” and get an answer based on your own numbers.
  • Explains changes for doctor visits. It can summarise shifts in your health patterns so you can discuss them with a professional.
  • Accepts quick logging. Google Health Premium supports logging by text, photo or voice.

What the AI coach costs

The coach is part of Google Health Premium, which replaced Fitbit Premium. To begin with, every Fitbit Edge comes with 3 months free. After that, Android Authority reports a price of $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year in the US. Also, if you already pay for Google AI Pro or Ultra, Google Health Premium is included in more than 30 countries, so check your plan before you pay twice.

Even so, without the subscription, Edge still tracks your activity, sleep and heart rate for free in the Google Health app. In other words, you only lose the personalised AI coaching and some deeper insights.

What Fitbit Edge does not have

Before you buy, know these limits:

  • No contactless payments. There is no NFC, so no Google Wallet on your wrist.
  • No microphone or speaker. You cannot take calls or talk to an assistant on the band. Alerts are vibration only.
  • Fewer features on iPhone. It works with iOS, but quick replies to messages are Android only.
  • No apps. It runs Fitbit’s own system, not Wear OS, so you cannot install extra apps.
  • New bands only. Old Fitbit bands do not fit.

For the cheapest way to get the Gemini health coach, Fitbit Air is enough. In contrast, if you want to see your stats during a workout and run without your phone, Edge is the sweet spot. Finally, for payments, calls and apps, the Pixel Watch 5 is the better tool.

Who should buy Fitbit Edge?

Buy it if you are one of these:

  • Runners, walkers and cyclists who want GPS without carrying a phone.
  • Charge 6 owners who want a bigger screen and a real button.
  • Anyone who wants a tracker that lasts for years, thanks to the replaceable battery.
  • People who like the idea of an AI coach and do not mind a subscription, or who already have Google AI Pro.

Skip it or wait if:

  • You want to pay with your wrist or take calls. Look at a smartwatch instead.
  • You only need steps and sleep. Fitbit Air at $99.99 does that for less.
  • You live in India and want local warranty and pricing. Wait for Google’s official launch details.

Is Fitbit Edge worth it?

For most people who want a simple fitness band, yes. At $179.99, Edge improves on the Charge 6 in three ways you notice every day: a larger screen, a button that clicks and a battery that can be swapped. On top of that, the built in GPS and 7 day battery make it a practical training partner.

Still, the catch is the AI coach. It is the most modern part of the package, but it lives behind a $9.99 monthly plan once the free months end. So budget for that, or instead plan to use Edge as a great tracker without the coach.
